2012 Volkswagen Eos

2012 Volkswagen Eos
2012 Volkswagen Eos
The Titan goddess of dawn better known as Eos has taken rebirth in the form of the Golf-based folding-hardtop convertible from Volkswagen. The car was displayed at the recently concluded Los Angeles auto show and it came with a very heavy face lift which gave it the similarity to the goddess of dawn. The chrome tongue design of the grille which company?s former design chief Murat Gunak, had created and had been the company?s signature design till now has been replaced with a wide horizontal grille. The stylistic clutter has also been cleaned up. The headlights have been replaced by rectangular units instead of the former round ones. This mounting holds the car?s LED daytime running lights, and the LED taillights too lose their glitzy white circle for an M-shaped look. To cater for higher cornering speeds the rear diffuser has been incorporated.
The folding roof design of the Eos has been retained as has been the other major design aspects of the car. As an engineering feat, if it is to be so termed, a built in sunroof can be opened even while the car is closed.

2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Revealed

2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class
2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class
The 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class is headed to the 2011 Detroit Auto Show for its public debut, but before that happens and thanks to a broken embargo in Europe, we?ve got photos of the new C-Class ahead of its official reveal.

Changes to the exterior of the car are extremely minor, limited almost entirely to the front and rear fascias. The front fascia receives a new headlight treatment, with a two-tiered design nearly identical to those seen on the new CL. The grille is slightly reshaped as are the lower air intakes, the fenders flares look to have been reduced, and the rear bumper is slightly lower. New, modern wheels complete the exterior revisions.

The interior of the 2012 C-Class is an entirely different story as it has been thoroughly redesigned. It now features the same angular design theme being applied across Mercedes? lineup and now found in the S-, CLS-, E-, and CL-Classes. The new C-Class features inverted vents compared to the rest of the lineup. The big news though is that the navigation unit is no longer a pop-up unit, but is rather built right into the dash and nestled under a sun-shielding hood.

Mercedes-Benz has yet to put its 2012 CLS-Class on sale here in the U.S., but we?ve already driven it, and the CLS63 AMG variant just debuted at the 2010 L.A. auto show. Not surprisingly, the tuners are right behind. German tuning house Carlsson has developed a tuning package that amps-up the exterior and interior, provides more oomph for its European-spec powertrains, and adds several suspension upgrades to boot.

The Carlsson tuning package starts with the basics: lowered suspension and an exterior enhancement package. Exterior enhancements include a front lip spoiler that can be crafted from carbon fiber and left bare, lowered side sills (which can also be made out of carbon fiber), and a modified rear fascia complete with diffuser. Buyers can also choose between 19- and 20-inch Carlsson wheels in three different colors. These touches, along with a new hood with dual powerdomes, lend the CLS a much more aggressive stance.

At the Geneva Motor Show this coming March, Audi will pull the curtain back to reveal its new A1 compact model. While Europeans will have the option of purchasing the car afterwards, Americans will have no such luxury as Audi of America President Johan de Nysschen feels the American market is not yet ripe for such a vehicle; he feels that that such a move will damage efforts to build brand recognition and compete head-to-head with BMW and Mercedes-Benz. After spending a week with the 2010 Audi S4, we can say with confidence that Audi is fast on its way to becoming a substantial player in the game that is currently dominated by BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

EPA estimated fuel economy city/highway: Automatic ? 21 mpg/29 mpg
MSRP with destination: $47,475
We already established the Volkswagen Golf is a good choice for fuel economy and we also pointed out the best method for increasing efficiency is through weight loss with the Mazda2. It makes sense to include the Golf?s lighter aluminum cousin, the Audi TTS. Not only is it an incredible performance car, but it happens to be one of the most efficient as well.
Take the floor pan from the Golf, slice off the front end, and replace it with aluminum components and you have the basis for the TTS. Now take the already potent turbocharged and direct-injected 2.0-liter I-4 out of the GTI and slap on a bigger turbo and intercooler for a grand total of 265 horsepower, then channel it through an S tronic twin-clutch transmission (with launch control!) driving all four wheels and you have a recipe for efficient performance. While 29 highway mpg is nowhere near diesel numbers, it?s pretty impressive for a car that does 0-60 mph in less than 5 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph.

Volkswagen Electric Taxi

Volkswagen is planning to introduce its Up-based electric Taxi Concept. The company is seriously thinking to begin the production of this concept vehicle in 2013. The company believes that in the future the lawmakers will compel the inner-city vehicles to offer low emissions and zero exhaust pollution.

The company said that the 180-mile range and one-hour charge time will fit into the work patterns of nearly all taxi drivers around the world. The battery-powered vehicle will be as a future vehicle for large cities. As reported by autocar, the designers at the VW said that they made a particular study of the classic London cab when it designed the Taxi Concept.

Designers at the company borrowed a London black cab from a company in Wolfsburg and spent three days studying, measuring and driving it. The designers noted that considered the London cab as an inspiration to the new concept vehicle since it is the most function-specific taxi in the world.
